Latihan Soal Conditional Sentence Bahasa Inggris SMP

Conditional Sentences dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut juga dengan kalimat bersyarat atau pengandaian. Ada tiga jenis kalimat pengandaian yang diajarkan di tingkat SMP yaitu tipe pertama, tipe kedua dan tipe ketiga. Sedangkan untuk tingkat lanjut, terdapat pengembangan materi pengandaian yaitu bentuk pengandaian dengan inversi.

If Clause 

Type 1

• If I have lots money, I will go around the world  (Jika saya punya banyak uang saya akan pergi keliling dunia ---dalam kenyataannya, kemungkinan bisa terjadi, tetapi juga bisa tidak terjadi)
• If it rains, I drive ( Jika hujan, saya pergi -- kemungkinannya bisa hujan atau tidak hujan)
• If the man comes, go. (Jika laki- laki itu datang, maka pergilah)
• If I come late this evening, don't wait for me! (Jika saya datang terlambat malam ini maka jangan tunggu saya)
• What shall we do if it rains? (Kalimat tanya -- apa yang akan kita lakukan bila hujan?) 

Dari contoh tipe pertama diatas, bisa kita simpulkan bahwa kalimat kondisional Tipe I bisa mencakup tiga bentuk yaitu, bentuk Present tense - future, present tense - present, dan bentuk present tense - imperative sentence. Kita bisa melibatkan modal seperti will atau can dalam bentuk kalimatnya.

If + simple present,    simple future (s+ will/ shall/ can + v1)

If + simple present,    simple present

If + simple present,    imperative sentence

Type 2

• If he didn't agree, I wouldn't go. 
• You wouldn't leave if he were here*

bentuk dari kalimat kondisional tipe kedua adalah simple past tense - future past tense (if s + v2, s + would + v1) ,  Secara makna bahwa bentuk conditional sentence tipe II, if clause nya menyatakan fakta yang tidak benar di masa sekarang atau masa akan datang (untrue in the present/ future). Adapun bentuk rumusnya adalah sebagai berikut  

If + simple past,    would/ could/ might  have + v1

Contoh konteks kalimat:

• If I had some money now, I would treat all of my classmates. ( kebenarannya adalah I have no money now, so I will not treat all of my classmates; pada saat ini (sekarang) saya tidak memiliki uang, jadi saya tidak akan mentraktir semua teman sekelas.)
• If he were here right now, he would help us. (kebenarannya adalah he is not here right now ; ia tidak berada disini)

*Dalam penggunaan If clause type 2, penggunaan subjek I, He, She , It, menggunakan bentuk "Were" 

Type 3

• We could have gone out if the weather hadn't been so bad. (Kita bisa saja sudah pergi keluar jika cuacanya tidak sangat buruk --- Cuacanya sangat buruk sehingga tidak bbisa pergi keluar)
• If it had not rained yesterday, I would have bought some books. (Jika kemarin tidak hujan, saya pastilah sudah akan membeli buku)

Penggunaan conditional sentence type III adalah merujuk pada bentuk kondisional past, dalam kenyataannya, kejadian tersebut kontradiksi dengan kejadian pada masa lalu (past). Bentuk yang dipakai adalah 

If + past perfect,    would/ could/ might  have + past participle

Contoh :

• I would have passed the exam if I had worked harder. (I didn't pass the exam)
• If I had had enough time, I would have written to my parents. (I did not have enough time, so I did not write to my parents)
