Latihan Soal Online Simple Present Tense vs Present Continuous Tense

Dalam bentuk waktu sekarang (Present) kita mengenal bentuk tenses simple present dan present continuous. Penggunaan keduanya seringkali membingungkan apalagi dalam terapan soal. Sebenarnya, kedua tenses tersebut memiliki perbedaan yang pasti baik dalam penggunaan, kata kerja yang digunakan, maupun bentuk keterangan waktu  (adverbial time) yang digunakan.

Sebelum berlanjut ke dalam latihan soal, berikut  review  materi tentang simple present dan present continuous.

Simple Present Tense


Subject + V I (Kata Kerja Bentuk I) + s/es*

                                          *s/es khusus untuk subjek orang ketiga tunggal (He, She, It)

Adapun penggunaan dari Simpe Present Tense adalah sebagai berikut;
a. Menyatakan suatu kebiasaan yang dilakukan
   Contoh:
  1.    He usually leaves work at 6.30 o'clock.
  2.    We always study at night
  3.    They play football on Saturday.
  4.    He often plays chess at noon.
b. Menyatakan kebenaran umum
   Contoh:
  1.    The sun rises in the east and sets in the west
  2.    The earth revolves around the sun.
c. Menyatakan peristiwa saat ini
   Contoh :
  1.    Sue dances beautifully
  2.    She comes from China.
  3.    She works hard at her office.
  4.    He looks tired today.
Penggunaan adverbial time ( keterangan waktu), adverbial of place ( keterangan tempat), dan juga adverbial of frequency ( keterangan frekuensi) sering digunakan  dalam Simple Present Tense.
  1. Always  selalu
  2. Usually  biasanya
  3. Often  sering
  4. Sometimes kadang- kadang
  5. Seldom  jarang
  6. Never  tidak pernah
  7. At night  pada waktu malam
  8. On Sunday pada hari minggu
  9. Twice a week dua kali seminggu
  10. Every week setiap minggu
  11. Every day setiap hari
  12. Here, there  disini, disana, dsb.
***Adverbial of place selalu diletakkan terlebih dahulu sebelum adverbial of time
Present Continuous Tense

Positive : S + am/ is/ are + V-ing
Negative : S + am/ is/ are + not + V-ing
Question : Am/ is/are + V-ing ?

Penggunaan Present Continuous Tense
a. Untuk meyatakan  peristiwa yang sedang berlangsung pada saat ini ( sekarang).
Contoh :
  1. I am not wearing a coat.
  2. They are studying English now.
  3. It is raining now.
  4. She is listening to music at the moment.
b. Untuk menyatakan perbuatan yang sudah direncanakan akan dilakukan pada masa mendatang ( keterangan waktu harus disebutkan).
Contoh :
  1. She is leaving Jakarta tomorrow.
  2. Mr. Ryan is going to Lombok next week.
  3. The plane is arriving tonight.
Beberapa bentuk waktu yang digunakan dalam Present Continuous Tense adalah sebagai berikut,
  • Tomorrow : besok
  • Tonight; malam ini
  • Today; hari ini
  • At present ; pada saat ini
  • Now; sekarang
  • This evening ; sore ini
  • This afternoon ; siang ini
  • At this moment ; sekarang ini
  • Dan sebagainya.
